Well, it’s perhaps good to say that you could place it on your lap, but we think you’d prefer using our a-X2P Portable Dual EPYC Workstation PC on a hard surface any place you need server-level firepower.
If you follow the computer hardware space, you may have seen the Tom’s Hardware article on our a-X2P Dual EPYC Portable Workstation PC, or perhaps on wccftech. You probably know by now that AMD has clearly taken over the performance lead in the server class CPU space. The second generation EPYC 7002 CPUs, led by AMD’s flagship EPYC 7742, offer 64 CPU cores per chip. Meanwhile Intel’s scalable Xeon flagship Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8280 CPU tops out at 28 cores – meaning the EPYC 7742 will provide more than twice the performance for some $3,000 less currently, or almost $5,000 less if you go with the slightly lower frequency EPYC 7702 64 Core CPU. This means, you can have 2x AMD EPYC 7702 – making your a-X2P Portable Dual EPYC Workstation a 128 Core laptop – for the same CPU cost as a single, 28 Core Xeon® Platinum 8280 (our i-X1P Portable Xeon Workstation can be so configured).
In other words our a-X2P Portable Dual EPYC Workstation PC in this configuration will provide over 4x the compute performance for fully multi-threaded scenarios at nearly the same cost.
What is the ideal use case for the a-X2P? Any situation where maximum processing power and mobility is required, where a traditional laptop simply won’t do. The a-X2P is an ideal workstation for location production and post-production, and provides up to 1200% more CPU and GPU processing power then any laptop currently available. in addition, the a-X2P Portable is ideal for any fieldwork where something like a mobile server is required – software composition analysis (SCA) QA, and license compliance risk comes to mind, as does AI. The a-X2P could even be considered the most powerful Machine Learning laptop, though as we’ve mentioned it’s a portable that’s better situated on a table.

Heat is an important point to cover with our portables. Because of the tight space within each unit, the standard configuration is for a single GPU. We can provide dual gpu configurations at your request, but it’s important to note higher RPM fans are required to keep such units cool, not loud but making for 30-45 db sound levels under load.
The a-X2P Portable Workstation PC comes with a single HD display, but can be ordered with 2 – 6 HD or 4K displays. It’s an outstanding solution for multi-camera monitoring and simultaneous broadcast capabilities, live field production and post production. For the multi-display portable workstation options, the 4K display produces UHD resolutions of 3840 x 2160 while retaining a 60 Hz refresh rate and maximum brightness of 1000 nits.
Thick gauge steel is used in the construction of each Portable Mediaworkstation chassis, and each portable threadripper workstation and portable EPYC workstation we sell comes with a touchpad and heavy duty mechanical keyboard which folds up onto the display for transport. Each unit comes with thick, sewn vinyl wheeled carrying case, and for those seeking maximum protection while mobile, we can build a custom, laser-cut foam Pelican or SKB case for ultrasafe transport of your a-XP, a-X1P or a-X2P, providing you with waterproof, high force impact protection wherever you’re headed.
The a-X2P is our flagship portable AMD workstation. All Mediaworkstations.net portables come with 1 to 3 year warranties, and our typical turnaround time on builds is 15-20 business days.
